Since we spoke last, I did end up getting in my 9 miler and it went well:)  I felt good and didn’t even fuel.  I ran to a park 4.5 miles away, drank out of the water fountain for hydration and headed back home.  The pace was pretty good although it would be nice to be back to my fast pace of 2 years ago, but I’m working on it;)

Sadly my 7 miler didn’t go as well yesterday:(  Don’t you hate it when you have a good run and then have one that is slower, shorter, and waaaay harder?!  Ugh!  Oh well, it happens.  The next one will be better:)  Unfortunately, my left quad is not very happy with me after my run yesterday.  Not sure what I did, but I will keep an eye on it and take it easy in the hopes it will feel better by tomorrow.  I’m planning for a 5 miler and would really like to get it in without injury.

In other news, my son has been doing well in his track meets.  Here is a video of his 1st place finish in the 100m.

He had a track meet yesterday and came in 2nd in the 100m.  I have given up on trying to get a good video of his races.  The above video was taken by my husband;)

The weather here in WA is slowly getting better and better.  After a hail/thunder/lightening storm on Tuesday, we are looking at sunny and 70’s for the rest of the week!  Yay!

Runner’s High at Mile 5

Do you ever have that anxious feeling when you are in the middle of a training plan and you skip a long run?  A week later you still haven’t done it and you spend every waking moment thinking “I better get my long run in!”.

Well, last week I was supposed to get my 10 miler in and I didn’t.  So, I planned to get it in yesterday and there was no way I was going to skip this time!

I woke up knowing what was on tap.  The only decision I had to make was whether I would run outside or on the treadmill.  Treadmill?!  What?  I know, but there were a few reasons the treadmill was an option.

1.  My PF has been acting up.  The treadmill eases the impact a bit.

2.  I have been having a few twinges lately (calf, ankle) and I didn’t want to get 5 miles from home and have something go wrong.

3.  For some reason most of the water fountains at the parks on my path aren’t on, and I don’t like to carry water.  The treadmill equals easy access to water and fuel.

4.  The weather was iffy.  I didn’t want to get poured on mid-run.

So my plan was to at least start out on the mill and if I just couldn’t take it anymore, I would head outside.  I started out slow and just ran.  At around mile 5 I felt great and knew I could make it to 10 no problem.  I actually contemplated doing 12 or 13, but didn’t want to push too hard and injure myself.  After all, my half is only 3 weeks away, yikes!

After the run, I stretched and hopped in a nice cold bath.  I actually felt pretty good, no weird aches or pains.  All in all a great run and I can’t believe I did the whole thing on the treadmill!

10 milerDid I mention I stocked up on Sharkies?  I feel like they are little miracles when I am doing a long run.  When I start feeling that lag, I eat a couple of these and I feel like I instantly have that bounce back:)  A friend of mine said she saw them at Rite Aid so I swung by and snagged 6 bags.  Sadly, one was taken by a family member (I won’t name names), but now I feel like I have to go back and buy the last couple of bags that were left, just in case;)

What is the longest distance you have run on a treadmill?  What do you use for fuel during a long run?  Do you put ice in your “ice baths” or are you wimpy like me and only use cold water?
