Reason for Sluggish Runs?

First off I want to say Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there:)  I hope you all had a great day!

Last week I blogged about a couple sluggish runs I had and I couldn’t figure out why.  I ran a 9 miler and felt great and was happy with my pace.  Then I ran a 7 miler and a 5 miler that were less than stellar.  I felt super sluggish and my speed was nonexistent:( What was wrong?  Why did I feel that way?  I wracked my brain looking for an answer and couldn’t think of anything.  Until yesterday when I realized that I ran out of my multi-vitamin with iron mid week, which is when I had my bad runs.  I tend to run low on iron and am thinking that might have had a negative affect on my runs.

Luckily I got more vitamins delivered this weekend and have been taking them for 2 days.  I am going to take one more day off since my PF is bothering me (luckily my quad is feeling fine) and hopefully get in my 10 miler tomorrow.  This will be the test!  I really hope my next run feels better than my last 2;)

Even though I felt sluggish last week I still got in some good workouts:)

Sunday:  20 mile bike ride

Monday:  5.5 mile hike to Lake 22

lake 22Tuesday:  Rest

Wednesday:  7 mile run

Thursday:  Rest

Friday:  5 mile run

Saturday:  16 mile bike ride

It’s been nice to get in a couple bike rides now that the weather has been cooperating:)  I still need to get my bike tuned up for the season since the brakes are a bit squeaky and the gears need some tweaking.

Have you ever had extra sluggish runs and wondered why?  Is your bike ready for summer riding?  How was your Mother’s Day?

Have a great day and happy running!

Clean Eating and Exercise

Yesterday was a great start to my week!  I ate well and went along with Laura’s January Reset.  I can already say that I have noticed a big difference in how I feel as far as bloating.  The last few months I just felt bloated all the time no matter what time of day.  It was unpleasant and I was ready to make a change.  I am excited to continue with the process and see how much better I feel!

I also kept up with my exercise goals.  I ran 3 miles on the treadmill and then did a little 2.5 mile hike.  It was so nice to get out in nature and breathe the fresh crisp air!  I ended up with over 15,000 steps according to my Nike Fuel Band:)

meadowdale beachSo far so good!  I ended up putting on my knee brace yesterday for my run and hike since my knee has been feeling “weird”.  Not painful, just achy and loose if that makes any sense.  Not sure what is going on, but I am keeping a cautious eye on it.

I wanted to also post about this awesome documentary about Kevin Pearce, professional snowboarder who suffered a traumatic brain injury and how his life and family changed through the process.  I happened upon it on TV the other day on HBO and I couldn’t stop watching.  It was pretty amazing.  Here is a trailer.

It’s an amazing and heartwarming story.  I hope you get a chance to see it.  I DVR’d it so my boys can watch too:)

How did your Monday go?  Any big changes for you?

Have a great day and happy running!

Monday Motivation

Well, I have a lot to motivate me today.  My Dietbet challenge has started and the pot is up to $1025!  Laura’s January Reset challenge has started and I am ready to detox my body after those extra holiday treats.  The boys are back in school and it’s time to get the house in shape and my body and mind back in tip top form!

Although it was tough to get out of bed this morning after pretty much waking up whenever I wanted the past 2 weeks, I reluctantly rolled out at 6:25am.  Gone are the early wake-ups that I challenged myself to do last month.  I realized that I needed that extra half hour to stay sane;)

After my weigh in for Dietbet yesterday, I was pretty much on Cloud 9.  I was very nervous to step on the scale since I hadn’t weighed myself in months, and had a bad dream the other night that the weight on the scale was cringe worthy.  To my surprise, it wasn’t too bad which made me very happy!

I feel like I haven’t blogged in forever and I think this post is already a bit rambling so I will finish it off with some bullet points.

  • I am thrilled that my Dietbet has reached over $1000.  My last challenge was only $450!
  • The last 2 weeks having my husband and kids home has been amazing!  I enjoyed every last minute of it.
  • My last bootcamp class was awesome and I plan to use 2014 to grow my business and increase my class participation!
  • I found the most comfortable Lululemon sweats (dog runner pant) at the outlet and I wish I would have bought more.  Although I don’t think they had any more in my size:(  Now when I try to find them online, I’m not sure they make them anymore.  Sad!  Why is it that companies stop making my favorite things?!
  • On tap today is a short run on the tready (knee is feeling a bit weird) and a short 2.5 mile hike while the weather is still dry.  Can’t wait!

I won’t ramble anymore even though I have a lot more to say!  It’s good to be back on  a schedule and I hope you all are having a great start to the New Year!

What is motivating you today?  Starting anything new?  Did you have time off over the holidays?  Do anything fun?

Have a great day and happy running!

Three Things Thursday

Thanks for all your nice comments on my finish line pic in yesterday’s post:)  If you happened to read my NODM race post  you would know that I ran the first 12 miles of this race at an easy pace and sprinted the last mile so that I could videotape my friends crossing the finish line:) It was so much fun!  My favorite part of that picture is the smiles on the faces of the ladies behind me.  I had just sprinted past them right before the finish line and they were still all smiles:)  I love runners!  Here are my three things:

1.  It’s my youngest son’s 5th grade graduation this morning.  I can’t believe my youngest child will be going to middle school next year!  Ahhhh!  I actually saw a woman who went to my high school (same class) a couple days ago at a restaurant and she had 2 little girls that were maybe 2 and 4.  Meanwhile I have my 2 boys (11 and 13).  One is over 2 inches taller than I am.  The thought of having a 2 and 4 year old at my age makes me gasp.  I do realize this is the norm nowadays.  But I have already weathered that storm and am happy to be on the other side:)

2.  I had to rearrange my workouts this week a bit.  Bootcamp practice happened on Tuesday and I went for a hike with my mom yesterday.  She is one of my clients and she has been rocking her workouts!  She has lost over 20 pounds since we started working together, woohoo!  So, I decided to switch things up a bit and take her on a hike with a big hill.  At every bench I would have here do squats/tricep dips/planks etc.  Here she is rockin’ it!

3.  Fitbloggin 2013 is coming up in 2 weeks!  I am so excited and can’t wait to go meet other fitness and health bloggers in real life!  I’m counting down the days:)

So, if you run into someone from high school do you say hello?  I didn’t say anything.  I couldn’t remember her name and I didn’t really know her in school.  Are you going to Fitbloggin?  Let me know so we can meet up:)

Have a great day and happy running!
