Favorite Things

If you are a seasoned runner or if you are just starting out, sometimes you need ideas or a fresh perspective on what gear works.  Or maybe you just want to try something new.  Here are a few of my favorite things that get me through my workouts:)

I know you all know how much I love Zipfizz.  This all natural energy drink mix tastes yummy and gives me the energy I need to get through my workouts and my day without the crash.  Love it!  My favorite flavor is fruit punch.

My Garmin Forerunner 220 is so awesome!  I use it every time I run and I love it.  I previously used the Garmin Forerunner 110 and liked it.  But, it never seemed to charge when it was supposed to and often I would line up at the starting line of a race and realize my watch was almost dead!  It was hard to connect to the charger and often took forever to lock on to the satellites.  So, when I got my new 220 I was a bit skeptical.  However, I was pleasantly surprised:)  It charges easily, keeps it’s charge for a very long time, and it locks onto the satellites quickly.  I also love that it vibrates every mile so if you are listening to music and you can’t hear the beep, you will feel the buzz:)

Paradice Ice Pack

I love this ice pack so much.  I received it so that I could review it on my blog and I fell in love with it! Usually if I need to ice something for me or my kids, I grab a bag of frozen peas and tie it on the sore part with a dish towel.  Classy I know:)  But  I was sent an awesome product from a company called “Paradice“.  These ice packs are so convenient to use.  They are basically little fluid filled balls inside a stretchy case.  They have many sizes and shapes to fit the needs of your injured or sore body parts:)  I was sent the 6×7 cuff for ankles and thighs.  You pull it on and you can walk around without worrying about it falling off!  So awesome!  Plus it conforms to your body!

I promise my thigh to calf ration is not that distorted in real life:)

-Fits snugly so you don’t have to worry about it falling off.

-Won’t freeze your skin off.  The fabric keeps just the right barrier between the ice and your skin.

-Molds to your body.

-Lots of size and shape options.

-Stays cold for about an hour after taking out of the freezer.

-I only have one ice pack:(

Seriously, my kids and myself both love this cuff and we kind of fight for the chance to use it:)  My youngest son needed it for his foot the other day and he didn’t want to take it off.  I will be bringing this for all of my kids’ sporting events too!  This is one of those products that you get sent for free and you actually spend money to buy more! Yay!

I am embarrassed to say that I was down to 1 pair of good running socks that I actually like.  When these were dirty I was stuck wearing socks that would slip down into the back of my shoe.  Don’t you hate that feeling?

I went to the Nike outlet store in North Bend and found some amazing socks!  I didn’t know what to think at first.  You can’t really tell until you try them on of course and I couldn’t try them on in the store, so I had to take a leap of faith.

As you can see, there is a tab in the back to ensure they don’t slip down into your shoe.  They are also the perfect thickness (for me).  Not too thin so that your foot moves around in your shoe, but not too thick to make your shoe feel tight.  They have extra cushioning on the ball and heel and supportive arch compression as well.

Is it weird that I am so excited over a sock?  I don’t think so.  I ended up going back and bought another pack and will probably end up buying more!

These socks are called Nike Women’s Dri-Fit Cushion No Show Tab (long name).

When I read all the info on the packaging it says they have a “left/right specific design for a better fit” which is funny because I didn’t realize that before I wore them.  I hope I put them on the correct feet:)

Do you have a favorite running sock?  What features do you need for your sock to be comfortable?

I love these gloves I found at Costco ($9.99) to keep my hands warm while I run.   These gloves have “Sensatec” fabric on the thumb and pointer finger tips that interact with touch screen devices.  So cool!  They also have “silicone rubber palms for improved grip”.

I bought this shirt at Costco and it is so awesome!  It is a half-zip long sleeve performance shirt ($19.99).  You can wear it alone or as a base layer to stay warm.  The best part is that it has thumb holes.  I love thumb holes when I am running because your hands stay warm without gloves!  The fit is great, and it is made with an anti-bacterial treatment so that when you finish with your long run, you don’t stink (as bad).  I also have a Nike one in black that my husband bought at the Nike outlet.  Love my half zip tech shirts!!

Sharkies are my “go-to” fuel during a long run.  They are gluten free and don’t upset my stomach like many race fuels do.  They just give me that boost I need to cross the finish line!
